Meta plans to double its computing capacity to 14GW by 2027 and will start manufacturing its custom Iris AI chip, part of the MTIA project, in September. The Iris chip, designed with Broadcom and manufactured by TSMC, aims to reduce Meta's reliance on NVIDIA and AMD GPUs. Meta also secured long-term supply deals with Samsung for memory, SanDisk for flash storage, and Sumitomo Electric for fiber-optic equipment.
Meta's aggressive in-house chip production and infrastructure buildout will shift compute demand away from external GPU suppliers, increasing competition for custom silicon.
