TSMC announced its Kumamoto plant in Japan will begin operations this year, just three years after breaking ground in 2022, an exceptionally fast construction speed for a semiconductor fabrication plant. The company is also simultaneously constructing multiple fabs in Taiwan to increase domestic production capacity for advanced chips.
