The Japanese government announced an additional 631.5 billion yen (approximately $4 billion) subsidy for domestic semiconductor startup Rapidus, raising total public investment to over 2.45 trillion yen. Concurrently, TSMC upgraded its Kumamoto Fab 2 (JASM) process node from 6-nanometer to 3-nanometer, increasing total investment from $1.22 billion to $1.7 billion.
Japan is aggressively rebuilding its domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity, shifting advanced process nodes eastward and intensifying competition for leading-edge compute supply.
