United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) has commenced mass production of silicon photonics wafers at its 12-inch wafer fabrication plant in Singapore. This move by Taiwan's second-largest contract chipmaker aims to address the growing demand for advanced optical interconnect solutions in AI and data center applications.
