NVIDIA's Quantum-X Photonics, featuring 18 silicon photonics engines hybrid-bonded on the switch package, has been commercially available since early this year with units already deployed at neoclouds. This Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) solution reduces power consumption by approximately 73% per 800G port compared to pluggable transceivers, dropping from 16-17W to 4-5W. The technology also promises 10x resiliency by eliminating numerous discrete transceiver modules and connectors, improving reliability for long-running agentic inference tasks.
NVIDIA's CPO deployment shifts significant power budget from networking to compute, freeing up facility capacity for more GPUs and improving fabric reliability for agentic workloads.
