Both Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are developing products based on the Compute Express Link (CXL) standard, which connects processors and memory over the common PCIe interface. This new class of memory aims to add an extra layer to AI systems as the industry reaches the physical limits of stacking more high-bandwidth memory (HBM) next to processing chips.
