Anthropic mathematician Levent Alpöge confirmed that the Fable model produced a counterexample to the Jacobian conjecture, a famous open problem in algebraic geometry. The counterexample demonstrates that a certain type of polynomial transformation, previously thought to be always reversible, can produce the same output from three different inputs, making it irreversible.
